Making a blog is harder than I expected.

I've never been very technologically inclined. If you mention the word coding, I'll probably gag. Computing and engineering is something I ~wish~ I could do, but it's just not in my nature. That's what makes me so proud of my engineering major friends- you guys are basically geniuses if you ask me.

Launching a website was surprisingly something I was able to accomplish within a few hours. Thank you Internet smarties for platforms like Wix that provide you with a customizable template. I tinkered around with WordPress, which is also a common platform for blogs, but I felt like the product looked less sophisticated and editing capabilities were more difficult to navigate.

I created my site with entirely no cost, but the most frustrating part about Wix is that you can't alter your domain name (the URL) without paying, and I somehow got stuck with "lewillingham." Contrary to popular belief, this is just my first and middle initial before my last name- not to be pronounced "Le Willingham" (which sounds like a meme but I can appreciate the French vibes). So for now, you can type lewillingham.wixsite.com/peachykeen into your browser (which I hope is Google Chrome), and maybe one day my blog will take off and I'll be rich enough to afford my own domain name.

Believe it or not, this is actually the third time I've launched my "own website." The first two times were for school projects, first in middle school and again my junior year. I'm really feeling like the third time's the charm- I'm ready to dedicate time and really create a product from this site, or at least just make a hobby out of it.

My favorite part of this little side project so far has been creating the logo. As I said, everything that went into this blog so far has been free. So, I had to get a little creative with the logo. Some people might cringe at this, but I used PowerPoint, which is my favorite way to edit photos. Seriously, just ask my roommate Natalie who once made the mistake of asking me for advice on making a GIF for class. The process for making the logo that is my profile picture on the Instagram page was so so simple. I found clipart of a peach, which I knew I wanted to be plain so I could put words on it. Next, I downloaded the handwritten-esque and typewriter font from a free site called DaFont (check back with me later to see if I ended up with a virus). Then I added a light blue background because I knew I needed a color besides peach to tie everything together.

Personally, one of the best parts of launching this blog has been reactions from friends. A few people contacted me with questions or saying they were contemplating starting one as well. One friend even launched her blog that she hadn't published yet! Go check out my sweet friend, Kiran, at her site: poisedandwild.wixsite.com/website (mwah).

Today, I decided to start a blog. In 2019, having your own blog isn't unique. So why make one? I blame finsta- the world of "fake"...
